He has suffered this season due to the fans' unrealistic expectations, being overplayed, and carrying too much weight on his shoulders as captain, talisman, defensive midfielder and provider of assists and good forward play.
Trust me, he's a very good player. Obviously, there's still a long way to go and he'll have to adapt but anybody with two eyes and a brain who has watched him since he broke through rates him highly and that's all you really have to know. It ain't 2001 anymore, and players with the ability to reach the top tier cost top money.
