alonso is not and has never been an aggressive, mobile ball winner. and it would be churlish to suggest mvila's passing is on xabi's level, because there are few in world football on that level. he won't be the type to pick apart a packed defense, but he will make us a more effective counter-attacking unit, and can win the ball and deliver it quickly and accurately to the flanks or an advanced AM.
i must admit i've been an advocate of getting someone strong who closes the ball down intelligently and aggresively, so i'm biased towards this deal. song simply isn't that player anymore, and i think wenger realises that.
