Don't think the transfer is likely but I also don't think Frimpong is particularly a part of Wenger's plans. There are three or four other, more senior players that will be affected if we do go in for M'Vila and then you have Coquelin who I rate higher than Frimpong.

Would be great if we were to get him, would be our central midfield future sorted. And we may finally be a better defensive unit.

Well it'd be better if we killed off players who don't have homegrown status.

i guess. i just dont think our 9th choice CM should have any influence on player acquisition decisions at all. i'm starting to come around to this signing - arteta, as good as he is, is neither young nor the most physical presence in CM. he's not a defensive-minded player, either, though he's adapted to his role due to his maturity and game intelligence. song has no leadership skills and doesn't like to play to his own strengths.

we've had a soft centre ever since vieira left, and maybe this is the signing to finally rectify that.

could we finally replacing vieira? ever since he left and we changed to fabregas's pass game we havent won anything, maybe moving back to a team full of pace and power will be the making of us again.

We've tried them all and the unit has been disappointing. The back four has improved and we have a world class striker. But the midfield has been shocking even recently against milan, liverpool and QPR. I could go back further but they needed time to gel.
Plenty of people rate them individually and that's what debate has centered around but together there pretty mediocre.

The back fours improvement is aided massively by Song and Arteta being together in that midfield. The weaknesses this season haven't been in those positions but in the attacking trio in between them and RVP. Theo has stood up now and shown a bit of something but AM and LW are still not up to it. Arguably, maybe, Wilshere and Podolski can fix that.

I would like
1) the option to play with more power and strength in midfield
2) cover / alternative to Song, who has had absolutely no cover for several seasons now.
2) someone sober to throw an arm over Song's shoulder and tell him he's not Liam Brady. He should focus on getting the ball and giving it to an outlet. Of course, it would help if he had real outlets available. This is why it would help for Wenger to add (e.g.) Kagawa to Podolski, and for Wilshere to get well soon.

In summary, bring in M'Vila and knock some sense into Song. Be able to pick a 3-man midfield from Song, M'Vila, Wilshere, Arteta on most weekends.

I quite like the idea of the signing; think we'd have enough games for him and Song if Alex took over Djourou & Squillaci's CB duties.

This midfield even got crushed by liverpools midfield to name another. I know they're working hard without the ball but i still dont think there a good unit.

@[deleted] dont get me wrong getting Jack back in there will improve us. But Song going to the ACN will weaken us. We've ran Jack completely into the ground once. We were asking for him not to be called for the NT because his fitness scores were seriously declining. That tells us his body was breaking down quicker than it could repair. Which is the exact cause of stress fractures in particular. Id like to be able to rest Jack in some games when he eventually recovers. Its not nearly fair what we did to him.

@QS I think your right AM, LWF are our 2 weakest positions. Like you say podolski and Jack can fill those. I still think theres more weakness in the middle than we realize. There decent in a reactive sense but there never looking like dominating a good team. Milan away doesn't count after they hid from the ball in the first leg and milan had shat themselves in the second leg.

I'd still like a full back who can play both sides and is better than Gibb/Jenks and someone magic in the attack.

im all for this signing once we sort out our attack first. our midfield has been lacklustre apart from when rosicky plays well. m'vila has that low centre of gravity and hunts the ball down better than song. passes well also.

gazza, do you want us to sign someone besides podolski? that would almost certainly mean that gervinho would be sold, and would walcott accept a squad role? or would you propose keeping gervinho and cashing in on walcott instead of extending him?
