To give an update after my unemployment posts over the last few months, I am now employed. It's only a 3 month contract (at the Ministry of Economic Development) to work on a specific project - economic analysis of the NZ film industry. But at least it's something - some money coming in and some more experience to go on the CV rather than continuing to sit at home doing nothing. And I suppose if it goes well there might be something else come up here. Anyway, can't do any harm to have one of the major government departments on the CV.
Also means I can at least remain in Wellington for now and won't have to move back to the parents in Auckland just yet. After all the hundreds of applications I made and interviews I went to this wasn't even an advertised job I applied for. I'd basically given up and was starting to look into moving arrangements (investigating how much to sell furniture for etc) and notice to landlord etc when i got this email out of the blue from a manager who had been sent my CV and needed someone for this work. Met him a couple of times informally and here I am. Not entirely sure how he got my CV but I applied for 2 or 3 other jobs here (had some interviews) and someone else here was sent it via the partner of someone I know so somehow it made it to his desk too.
The pay is slightly less than I was getting in the previous job although shouldn't be noticed too much and the only alternative was to continue earning 0 back with my parents.
