I'm far from an expert when it comes to applying for jobs, but from my experience it's always important to show that you're a leader who has great teamwork abilities. Went to a few group assessment days; I believe it's important to show that you are happy to take charge and manage people. In one-on-one interviews I feel you need to put some of your humility to the side and focus on selling yourself honestly and proving once again to the interviewer that you are a leader-type who thrives in a team environment. This type of person seems to be what the big firms are after. Also try to know a decent amount about the firm you're applying to; just mentioning one or two things that are unique to the firm to the interviewer goes a long way.
And as clichéd as it may sound, the best way to improve as an interviewee is to go to interviews. The difference between your first job interview and your second is pretty big - in my experience anyway.
