In all seriousness though, how long have you been in your job Don? About a year, right?
Have to be honest, nobody gives a shit how many hours you put in or how hard you work because you simply aren't important enough. Are you doing these extra hours as a favour or because it is par for the course?
The only way to make yourself more 'needed' is to socialise so that people remember who you are. Go for work drinks even if you can't be arsed. If you had a good conversation with somebody, follow it up with an e-mail on monday. Invite others to lunch. Make sure that you know everyone's name and greet them with a smile and a hello. Ask them how their weekend was. Listen and commit key details to memory so that you can ask them about it next time.
You would need alot more than I'm willing to type to cover promoting yourself at work but the basic principle is that nobody cares what work you are doing as long as the job gets done; everybody cares as to whether or not you are a person that they would like to work with.
