What should our negotiating stategy have been then?
Cesc was adamant he was only going to Barca and by all accounts his "hamstring injury" could have kept him out for months.
The only thing we could have done differently was refuse to sell him.
The fee is sickening and we can thank Cesc for playing his part in the Barca stitch up.
They would never have done it without his help.

What Lagos says is largely true; in sporting terms, it doesn't matter if we got 50p for Cesc if there isn't a willingness and ambition to spend it on replacements.

well, we all knew it was coming. and now we only have two weeks and tricky, tricky ties to maneuver around to get the squad completed. whether it will be is obviously another matter.

No, I don't agree with his assessment of the situation re:-spending, but his point is correct.

How much more could we have got, another £5m? £10m? I would say five and that isn't significant enough to impact on any of our transfer moves.

So after 6 long trophyless years we have finally sold the man whom we sacrificed Vieria and the balls of the team for, whose 'development' effectively started the 'transition period' that has plagued us ever since. Well done Arsene.

I agree with you.
As I said in a post above our negotiating position was weakened by Cesc's unwillingness (refusal?) to stay here or move anywhere but Barca.

I'm annoyed by the fee simply because I feel we were forced into this situation, mainly by Cesc himself.

We had to choose between the lesser of two evils.

I suppose my other complaint is that we should have just sold him earlier in the summer.
Then again that would have been for £5m or so less.

We were never going to get anything but grief no matter what we did really.

We should have kept him. 40m by July 31st or no deal. That is what we should have told both Barcelona and Cesc. If Cesc had known then that he was staying at least another year he would have had no choice but to mentally and physically prepare for the season ahead.

I cannot understand AT ALL why we haven´t taken a hard stance here. Cesc´s "feelings" is way down my list of considerations in this whole sorry saga.
