It's a different type of rioting in Belfast though qs?
They are less about the looting and more about the mob seeking direct confrontation with the police.
The rioting is always confined to certain areas too, they are less mobile.
Having said that I was thinking the same myself, there's no way that the methods employed to deal with rioting in Northern Ireland would be used anywhere in mainland Britain.
Too harsh, too brutal.
Imagine the outcry and reaction if a kid were killed by a plastic bullet?
The rioting in Belfast was the worst it has been in years this summer so it probably wouldn't take much to spark them off again.
Even though they usually schedule it for the period around the 12th they'd probably be willing to make exceptions.
