Indeed Kel, this is most certainly not the type of signing we need now, a luxury, another little coloured ball for Wengers christmas tree while the the rest of the house is falling down.
I'm going to hold my fire though for the moment as the transfer period is not over yet.
But the signs don't look good we can all see that Wenger is still thinking as he always has.......

Heard we sent somebody to watch Cahill again last Friday and that Everton are holding tough.

It would be a massive relief if he was confirmed in time for him to play at the weekend.

I'm a Jags man, but I get the impression that Cahill is our number 1 choice. Kinda think that the Jagielka bid, offering less than we did 12 months ago, was made with lowering the Cahill fee in mind.

Both Jags or Cahill would be welcome and both would upgrade our defensive pool.

If we get one of them then we'll have strengthened this summer, albeit having strengthened sans mad willy shaking moment.

There isn't a massive difference in quality between the two?
Cahill looks to be the more robust and we need a CD who can last the pace of a whole season.

This kid is utter class. So glad we signed him. Technically he has very little to learn and hes a central midfielder by trade turned winger so he has playmaker qualities such as vision and awareness combined with his deadly pace and penetration.

Class above a young Walcott and Ryo.

I agree, its maybe just the vagaries of hammering out the deals that reflect the timing of the transfers actually completed, thats why I said I'm holding my fire.
But the three players already signed seem to reflect where Wengers priorities lie, and they're the polar opposite to what almost everyone believes is needed most.

If the £15m figure is to be believed, there's no question we've got the raw end of the bargain. He looks very talented (more intelligent and technically developed than Theo did at that age) and could well fulfil that implicit hype but given what we do know (that he has only played in League bar last Saturday), then you are going to scratch your head a bit. We should definitely be buying such talents but I hope it's not at the expense of reinforcements that are needed right now. We can do (and have done in the past) all the future-proofing we want but it means nout if we continue to look lacklustre in the present.

Ultimately, this takes no pressure off Wenger at all and if anything heaps more on as fans are going to be pissed if we don't complete more business as this signing will be seen as partly to blame..

he's a 17 yr old kid with the face of a 40 yr old man. that's as close as wenger will get to buying experience.
