Djourou and Vermaelen are not fullbacks. We needed better fullback cover than Jenkinson and Gibbs. I feel especially sorry for those two because they were matched up against Nani and Valencia, which must be a nightmare for 6 foot plus center backs who just can't match those two for mobility and speed. You can do this against Stoke but not against a squad like United.
Sure, but at some point a player is expected to take some responsibility for not being humiliated every week. Alright, he's unlucky to be asked to take on Nani but for the past year (almost) he's been poor. He's not a particularly bad player either but speedy makes a good point about aggression, for a 6 ft 4 defender he should be kicking the shite out of whoever he plays.
