Not a dig at the two youngsters. If you look back at my A-M posts, you will find that I was genuinely excited by Ramsey. I think the Ramsey we are seeing now is vastly inferior to the more dynamic Ramsey we saw two years ago. In short, I was saying that I think Oxlade will be very good, but I'm not going to get carried away yet

how is it a dig to compare him to ramsey? ramsey's a fine young player. he's just not at the age where he should bear the brunt of the responsibility in midfield. he's hardly had any experience, has hardly ever played with any CMs over the age of 23, which is absurd if you think about it.

The thing for me is in all my time watching the Premier League, only 3 players in the 17-18 year age range have blown me away. And all turned out decent: Ronaldo, Rooney and Fabregas.

None of our current crop are in that bracket but, you know what, I don't see that level of talent amongst the youngsters at other Premier League teams. I think Wilshere etc will be fantastic players, and there is nothing wrong with saying they won't be as good as Rooney and company

When did you start watching the premier league? Because there have been quite a few players who were better at that age than the three you mentioned.

When did you start watching the premier league? Because there have been quite a few players who were better at that age than the three you mentioned.

Only Giggs and Anelka spring to mind. Other than that, I think he's right

Wilshere at eighteen looked like a better player than Rooney at the same age. He also strikes me as someone who will be remembered as a much better player. I certainly wouldn't swap them.

I thought Anelka was excellent. He was one of my favorite players in pre-Henry Arsenal. He showed great ability. I rank him probably about as high as Mario Balotelli at the same age. A remarkable talent, but not an otherwordly one.
Again, I rank Wilshere, but I just think that those 3 players (Rooney, Ronaldo and Fabregas) had a real confidence and skill about them at an early age that is very rare.

I think Wilshere's performance against Barcelona, having just turned 19, was as remarkable as any performance Fabregas put in at the same age, and superior to anything Rooney or Ronaldo did at that age.

I've literally seen one game of Chamberlain, well, one more last season, too, but I wasn't really paying attention, and I'd say the kid is about as exciting as I've seen in this League from one so young. Will wait until he's doing similar things in the Premier league, but he's so explosive and exciting, it seems he can do anything, reminds me of Ronaldo when he burst onto the scene. I think it's his confidence and cockiness that seals it for me, it's so rare at that age, he's just ready to go, Rooney and Jack were exactly the same.

Have to say, after not having seen the match and reading some posts on this board, I got the impression he was more impressive. By all means, it's a great debut in a struggling team and a cracking goal, but bar one or two magic moments, the rest was just standard stuff.

Not to say he's a better talent, but I was more impressed with some of Ryo's performances for Feyenoord last season.

Both have some way to go before they should be considered as options for the starting XI, IMO.

The best teenager to ever set foot in this league was the coke head at Liverpool.

Also, Ronaldo was bobbins at 18.

What has Balotelli ever done? He's nowhere near what Anelka was at his age. Balotelli doesn't even come into the conversation of great young players. He's 21 and achieved nothing.
