Really? News to me.

Does he really, or is that just transfer gossip?

Like Xcdude says, everyone has it. It's mandatory for La Liga teams to include one in the contracts. In Mata's case his agent has more or less confirmed the sum Valencia would require too.

Ok. So the if the reported sum of around 20m quid is true - what is Valencia´s president talking about?

I'd assume the quotes are fake or altered, but I assume that about everything that is being printed or reported in the English press.

The clause only applies to Spanish teams apparently.

Release clauses are neither here nor there. It's just a number you pull out of the air, and if a team matches it, you have to let them talk to the player. There are rumors that Thiago could be included in the Fabregas deal. His release clause is 3x what Barcelona are willing to pay for Fabregas.

Right, but Mata's release clause is de facto not set to €60 million. Barca learnt their lesson with Figo a long time ago. With clubs like Valencia it's a different situation. They aren't top dog and they need to push players to survive due to the shitty nature of Spanish television rights.

That's a different clause.

Valenica only need to 'push' players to survive only because of the disaster that is the Nou Mestalla. Otherwise, they'd be able to hold on to Mata, David Villa and Silva. A good offer will get the conversation going.

Hence why I stated apparently, wasn't sure whether it was true or not.

Players for lesser clubs won't sign contracts with unreasonable release clauses. In any case, whatever the reason, Mata has a release clause and it's somewhere in the region of £20-25 million. I think they'll sell him for even less if it came down to it though. Despite all the media speculation I don't think anyone has even tabled an official bid this summer.

Not entirely bullshit as Mata will have one of those too; it's the mandatory clause that people are talking about above.

Mata, however, is said to have a genuine transfer clause that the club can't block in his contract.

Mata has a 25 million euro release clause, allegedly. Graham Hunter reckons that if that clause is activated then either Valencia accepts and sells him, or they can refuse the offer but that triggers another clause which gives Mata a significant pay raise.

Makes sense when you think about it.

a year later

Soooo....just Dules and me wanted this bloke last year! :o :hmm:

Anyway, tenuous links abound. Dodgy rumour at the minute, but there's nowt else going on. Who would take him now?

One of the blokes linked by that "Player of Basque Origin" rumour

Surprising their Mega rich owners are bailing out on them after just 1 year which is relatively successful. Isco interests me as well.

Arseblogger's writing 😆

There are so many bloggers these days trying to sound like crappy journalists.

So Carzola - what would he bring us?
Will he walk straight into the first team?
