We've reportedly met the £21M buy-out clause in his contract. Along with another English club.

Hopefully thats true. A signing like mata is the least i expect if cesc or nasri are leaving.

Mata would be a fantastic signing, but would surely mean that at least one of Fab/Nasri is off. Most likely Nasri.

I'm okay with Mata replacing Nasri, I think we'd come out of that well if we can get £25M from City for Nasri, but if Cesc leaves then we need to pull something even more special out to make that acceptable, and I don't see anyone that good who's getable.

Mata will be great playing with Cesc once he gets going. His movement in the final third is so good. A potential Bergkamp-Ljungberg partnership. I'd keep Nasri for a year irrespective of whether he wants to sign or not, though, to avoid the transition period. Next summer Mata will be up to speed.

Sky Sports News, but I saw it second hand on Twitter. A 'Spanish journalist', could be Graham Hunter but I don't know for sure, has confirmed two clubs have met the buy-out clause and one of them is Arsenal.

My concern about Mata is that it will take him at least 1-2 years to get used to the league and deliver at the necessary level. It took Nasri 2 years, so I just wonder how long it would take someone like Mata. I just don't have much patience left.

this is the main concern, we wait for these players to develop and once they do and we're still struggling to challenge for titles they bugger off. We need players who can slot in and start producing almost straight away.

The big difference is that Nasri came here off the back of two seasons playing centrally and had to be converted into the wideman he is now on top of playing at a new club.

Mata and Gervinho will adapt much more quickly.

If Nasri goes and we get Mata then I'll have absolutely no complaints.

Sure, no problems removing Cesc and Nasri from our forward six and replacing them with Mata and Gervinho who will gel instantly and combine beautifully

It's not as if we play a game that requires players to be confident, on top of their game and have an intuitive understanding between them.
We've seen how players slotted easily in and out of the system when we lost players through injury this past season.
And yes I'm aware that Mata and Gervinho are of a better quality than Bendtner and co.
Trouble is Bendtner and co are still here so I guess they'll still getting some games next season too.

So much for clearing out the dead wood.
So far looks like we'll be downgrading on Cesc and staying on an even keel with Nasri's replacement.

You would let him leave for free and have his pick of clubs just so we keep him for an extra season?

Not especially your point, but I think our attacking game is signifcantly more individualistic than is assumed. The invincibles were a well drilled, fantastic attacking unit but this version isn't in my opinion.

With Mata and Nasri in the squad team we could win the league. That's worth more than anything we'd get for him at this point.

I'm thinking more along the line that they're going to give us 30-35 goals and at least half as many assists.

That´s why Nasri wants 110k per week. He has allegedly developed his heading ability over the summer up to the point that he singlehandedly now can command the area on corners and freekicks. We will leave 8 guys on the half way line just waiting for Nasri´s clearance and lunge into a deadly counterattack. 110k per week is a small price to pay for that me thinks.
