We could and should be looking to accomodate mata, nasri and cesc in the squad. The more true quality the better.

We spent enough on defenders the last few years to have bought a great set. Just don't trust arsene in that area. Still think our attack could do with pepping up. Plus we've played boring football for quite a while now. Want it fixed.

Star names excite too. If we're not gonna win things may aswell entertain!

as for defence, we need keown brought in. we could spend 50m back there and it wouldn't make much difference.

Keown said today at a Q&A at the Emirates I was at, that he wouldn't feel comfortable coming back to Arsenal because of the status he had as a player, and that it wouldn't be the same as a coach. He said he'd love to work with Wenger elsewhere, although he didn't foresee Wenger ever leaving Arsenal for elsewhere, but couldn't see himself on the coaching staff at Arsenal.

to go from keown, adams, bould to vermaelen, kos and djourou. how the mighty have fallen...

Actually Kami I think you are wrong. 50m sees us buying a top class CB and a top class LB. I reckon that could actually make up for the manager´s shortcomings when it comes to defending.

i dont think it would make much difference. djourou is easily one of the top 10 CBs in the league, and clichy, as poor as some of his game is, is still one of the 4-5 best LBs in the league.

our defensive problems start in midfield. just switching up the back four doesn't help us narrow passing angles, close passing lanes or track runners in the buildup.

though you're right in that maybe those signings, if experienced enough, might do some of the coaching that wenger isn't doing.

Thing is Kami, it's all very well saying they are among the best in the League, but when they persistently cost us goals due to stupid, basic errors and lapses in concentration, being among the best for the rest of the time doesn't count for very much.

Clichy is never at fault for any of the 20 odd set piece goals that we conceded last season. Think about it.

He had plenty of his special moments not related to set-pieces, and even though he was on the post he still managed a few influential fuck ups last season even from that position. Such as not getting out properly against Sunderland from a corner, and then kicking the ball straight at Koscielny, costing us 2 crucial point sin 94th minute. He also did some strange things when coming off the post that I can't recall in detail, but remember cursing him for.

i'd be the first to agree with you on that. i was one of the biggest "clichy out" guys. i think changing our defensive preparation would've helped a lot in terms of reducing mistakes and opportunities to make mistakes.

So we're no longer getting Mata as we're unable to stump up the cash. Boo!

I suspect that we went after Mata on the basis that one of Fabregas or Nasri would be sold by now. I doubt we have budgeted to have all 3.

theres no reason not to sell nasri. i suspect we haven't really tried.

I think we are waiting to see what happens with Fabregas. The more I think about it, the more I think that we should've just dumped Nasri and replaced him with Mata. Then whatever happened with Fabregas, at least we would have Mata in for sure. Now we just have too many variables. But again, too early to be overly critical of the handling of the Nasri/Fabregas situation.

I think at this point, both Cesc and Nasri had to go, they don't instil confidence in this team, in fact right now, both look like mercenaries designed to bring this ship down. We need to instil confidence in the fans, and the later that viable replacements get here, the less confidence the fans can have in our coming season.
