If you mean the dragging out and brinkmanship, then yes; Sneidjer and Modric, for instance, have been dragging for weeks.

Tevez is second only to Fabregas for tedious transfer sagas. Sanchez to Barca involved a fair bit of fannying about as well. It happens everywhere.

Could be true - we could well have bid below the buyout.

It's the minimum needed to guarantee he can leave to whoever bids it, which will therefore be greater than or equal to the minimum the club would conceivably accept. No club would allow a player to negotiate a buyout less than they'd ever accept after all.

The other possibility is that the buyout has some structure attached in terms of the payment schedule that gives Valencia the latitude to consider several bids that may meet the minimum.

The journalists are misunderstanding, but the spanish press have been much clearer on this. Mata didn't have a second clause, he had an agreement with Valencia that they would listen to offers of a 'good' value or increase his wages on August 1st. Valencia are broke but managed to find such agreement with several players including Kun (hence the different 'release' amounts continuously attributed to him as well).

We were never triggering any clause but are just negotiating the move as a bog standard transfer.

Slightly better terms will find agreement should we offer them.

I think the delay in this transfer has everything to do with Fabregas If, as I suspect, Wenger plans to sell Fabregas and keep Nasri, then maybe he is waiting for confirmation of Fabregas monies before pulling the trigger on Mata.

On its own, it looks like another transfer where we are messing around. Viewed in the context of the Fabregas fiasco, it makes sense why we are stalling.

There should already be money there. In fact Gazidis said as much. If it is true then it's so hilariously amateur hour from Arsenal that even I'm amazed at our lack of conviction for once.

Would much rather sell Nasri and get Mata. Yes Nasri is a good player, but he's going to walk at the end of next season, no way in hell he's going to sign another contract with us. It's silly to lose out on _20M for him now that could go towards strengthening the squad/Wenger to stuff under his mattress for the sake of getting one more season out of him.

No of course it's got nothing to do with money- we have plenty of money, Wenger is keeping a tight fist on it until it's apparent Fabregas and/or Nasri will go.

It's not just about money. I agree. It's about personnel. We do not need to have Mata, Fabregas and Nasri on one team. We already have Arshavin, Rosicky, Walcott, Gervinho and even Ramsey overlapping with those guys. Even Wenger with his penchant for Smurfs would surely see that having all those players is just wasteful when we need defenders and DMs

Then buy Mata first, tell Nasri that he's going to be sitting on the bench and that'll move him on quick enough as he won't want to miss out on playing time in a Europeans year. Extreme - yes. But we need to be proactive for once instead of reacting to everything.

If we can't sell Nasri for within 5m of the sort of price you'd want for him, we're idiots. He'll never have more hype than he does now, with commentators claiming he's a more important and gifted player than Fabregas is.
