The problem is that it's not enough even if it happens to be true. Cahill and Mata would have been decent reinforcements at the beginning of the summer but right now they won't even make up for the players we've lost. I can't believe how poorly we've acted in this transfer window. It begs all belief.

Beggars belief? Really Klaus? When you did your summer projections for comings and goings, didn't you half expect this to happen? It's fun at the beginning of the summer when we start calling out for Benzema (me) and Kagawa (you), but deep down, I'd like to think we all know that our summers tend to end with us slipping further down.

Cali, when last season ended, did you honestly think: "We're going to lose Fabregas and Nasri, sell our regular leftback and give away the only experienced backup we have for the fullbacks"? I suspect not.

I didn't expect much from this transfer window. I expected us to pick up a Gervinho and a Cahill (not necessarily those two but players on that level) to strengthen the squad a little. Maybe a striker or a midfielder too. I didn't expect us to lose three starting players though, and I didn't expect us to start the season without having replaced a single one of them properly.

I've been pessimistic about bringing players in all summer but I never expected the number of outgoings, especially not without replacements.

Early on in the summer I think I projected our transfer trading profit at over 20 million pounds. I expected us to sell both Fabregas and Nasri, fetching 60 million in the process, and to not spend more than 40m pounds.

We're on track, I think. With Oxhead, Gervinho, Campbell and Jenkison, we've bought about 12+13+1+1 =27m so far, and we are likely to make about 35 + 22 + 10 + 7 + Eboue = 74m from the sales of Fabregas, Nasri, Bendtner and Clichy respectively. That's around a 50m gap if we assume Eboue fetched around 3m pounds.** We will try to spend around 30m on a forward and a defender and be done methinks.

I don't think we are far off from what i expected. The only thing that has really surprised me is how left we have left everything.

Don't forget the sales of Clichy and Eboue, there's another £11m or so. We'll probably sell Nik too so round it up to £20m. Plus if you're including Jenks then you may as well count the sale of JET.
