No I'd say its more to do with age than anything else. People in their 20s and early 30s tend to chant alot, people over 40 don't bother.
Giving players a bit of abuse is just part of the craic at a game IMO. Calling a player a "cunt" isn't bad at all. Maybe its the word itself you object to, I don't know but its not like a racist or homophobic chant.
That said I've never booed or chanted against one of our own. Booing Ashley Cole is probably one of the most fun things you can do though, I'd highly recommend it to everyone.
