If Samir Nasri or any other player on the field had shown half as much committment and courage against an 11 man Birmingham as Freddie did for a 10 man team in the CL final, we would have won 🙁

Freddie wasn't the greatest technically but what he lacked in technical abilities he made up for in heart, passion and desire to win. His greatest asset was his off the ball running. Always seeing the space or anticipating correctly where it would go. Legend of a player almost up until the end.

Of course knowing that a player exists and actually taking a chance on him are two separate things. I've always felt that one of Wenger's finest achievements were to take two central-attacking midfielders like Pires and Ljungberg and turn them into two of the best wingers in Europe. He's seemingly done the same thing with Nasri.

ljungberg was a fantastic finisher, too. give him a clear chance and you knew he'd pick a corner or chip the keeper. fantastic player and somewhat unfair that he's deemed "technically limited". he could do everything he needed to do, and did it at the right time. we would not have won the double in 01/02 without him, and i'd take players like him over spineless wannabe's with all the talent in the world.

Exactly, even though he didn't come across as a technical maestro because he didn't do much flashy stuff, his finishing and the quality of his passes and runs were always brilliant.

Ljungberg was as technically gifted as any footballer needs be. Things aren't always what they appear. Who would have thought Benitez would turn out to be a war criminal?

Ljungberg was a very good player, but paled in comparison to the rest of the midfield/attack. I'd say Nasri will quickly become a better player, and I'd personally back Theo too in time as well - not really a slight on Freddie, but more a compliment to those two.

only because he's on a rubbish team. his disappearance post-Xmas means he bears some responsibility, but if he was playing in place of someone like Nani, he'd have a lot more hype

There was massive hype around Nasri before his dip and there still is (hence the £18-20m for a player who'll be free in a year). If anything I thought it was a little more than he deserved.

Simply put, if he was on a winning club, playing at the exact same level, he'd have a lot more hype. I take it back to the Freddie Ljunberg issue. If Ljunberg was on this team, there is no chance that we would be going on about how magical he is 10 years from now.

If Freddie was in this team over the last few seasons, we'd be moaning constantly about his weaknesses and limitations.

Quite a few of the players that people are desperate for us to sign in place of Nasri are also hyped to the sky, no?

If they were not people wouldn't be obsessing about them.

I'm convinced if Nasri had played as he did here last season, but for a Spanish or Italian club, people would be clamoring for us to get him.
His fade in form wouldn't have registered as much.
