Of course he wants other clubs calling. Have you lot ever been involved in a negotiation. You cannot tell someone to give you a better offer if there is no evidence that you can do better elsewhere. Even if he wanted to stay at Arsenal, it would be wise for him to introduce a valuation derived by a 3rd party, particularly if that 3rd party is going to be willing to pay big bucks.

Nasri is still ours to lose if we give him a living wage (110k/week) and bring in some stars, I reckon

We seem to think that these players are not workers/employees just the way most of us are. I grant you they are celebrities and make much more money than us.

If someone offers me xx amount of dollars more than I am making and have better benefits (winning league titles, FA cups, etc. for players), I would move on.

I don't consider that I am greedy, just sensible and want what I consider the good things in life. Why should players be different than you and I? They have needs, wants, and considerations also.

Law of diminishing returns says each pound between 90k and 110k per week isn't worth that much really, I imagine that's why people think the less tangible factors like pride, loyalty and our class in a system stacked with thugs and charlatans might work in our favour.

Unfortunately, our intangibles are seriously on the wane. They're down in the basement with our wages as far as external perceptions are concerned. Every Evraesque shitbird thinks he can open his mouth and deliver a unprovoked slagging off of Arsenal or questioning of our methods at the moment, and it's because we fail on the pitch and dither about off it.

Says a lot about how much the board back Wenger if they're willing to listen to him and risk losing Nasri on a free next year, missing out on 20m odd. Wenger to be sacked by x-mas Asa? Can I still get in on that?

Will be interesting to see what sort of reaction Nasri will get from the fans.

I'm sure the board can easily stomach the lack of success so long as the bottom-line remains above water. If Wenger starts hurting us there as well, he'll be out quick as you like.

The comparison is silly. Nobody becoems an accountant because it's their passion. There are plenty of other fields, like sports, where people sacrifice money in order to follow their passion or maintain integrity.

There is also the fact that if I moved accountancy firms I wouldn't be letting down a hundreds of thousands who've pretty much paid your salary and sang your name week in week out.

Well he certainly hurt us there with Wiltord.
But he was winning things then so we didn't really care.

I'd imagine the board are fully aware of the risk, they're not going to suddenly realise it might be a bad idea 4 months down the line.

The point is Wenger holds a shitload of influence with the board, they back him in pretty much every decision he makes. Their faith in him seems like it's as strong as ever, otherwise they wouldn't allow him to take such a gamble with Nasri.

A few boos, and thats as bad as it will get when it comes to fan abuse towards Wenger, will not change that.

Wiltord was never as valuable, even in relative terms, as Samir is now.

Whether or not such a gamble is a good idea will be apparent in 5 months time, not 2. Top of the table and Nasri signs a new contract at Christmas, and Wenger will look pretty smart. If we're 6th and he's signed a pre-contract at Man Utd, he'll look pretty fucking stupid, and I think you're massively underestimating the level of dissatisfaction amongst the matchgoing fans if you think that will only translate into 'a few boos' against the manager.

I'm pretty sure a player in the last year of his contract can only sign a pre-contract with a club from a different country when he has 6 months to go.

I'm well aware of the dissatisfaction, I've been one of the ones who've booed at full time. But frustration and anger and booing at full time and demands to sack and abuse Wenger are two very different things.

I talking from a purely financial perspective Asa, Wiltord cost us a very hefty 13M in 2000 and left for nothing 4 years later, people forget our "financial wizard" has form for this.
He got badly burned on that one and I believe thats one of the reasons for this youth driven madness and his aversion to buying the proven top players that we all know we need to dig us out of this hole.

But- It's too late for that now anyway, as you say: We don't want him wasting the new managers funds.

They are, but we're in uncharted territory now.

I don't think fans are going to just forget what happened last season if next season starts going down the tubes, and Wenger's done nothing to halt the slide.
