I think if we replaced one of them with a top quality player and made a couple of good signings like Cahill elsewhere then we may be ok.

I'm not subscribed to The Times on-line but the print version is reporting that Wenger has told the Arsenal board that he would rather lose Nasri on a free transfer next summer than allow any of our PL rivals buy him.
Apparently Nasri will be given this news tomorrow and Kroenke and the board support Wenger's stance.
Only an unrefusable offer from abroad would prompt them to reconsider.

There are no sources quoted in the article and it mainly just reiterates what Wenger said when he spoke on the subject a month or so ago but hopefully it's closer to the truth than rumours of Nasri going to City.

I'm not surprised to hear Nasri say he wants trophies. It's what I've been saying all along, despite people saying it's all about money with these players. A football career is 10 years. You guys work for 40 years in your careers. Every year of failure for a footballer is too high a cost.

And I'm still confident that if we had made two high profile signings/announcments last month, we'd have no problems from most of our players right now. We're pissing in the wind.

we can easily replace nasri. i'm not concerned in the least about that.

if we got the minimum 50m for fabregas, i'd be inclined to say we could eventually replace him, too, though obviously not like-for-like. but we all keep seeing figures like 35m, which is not going to cut it because we'll need to improve at least 2 positions to make up for losing fabregas. it might also cost us a league campaign whlie we learn how to play a new style without him.

and then what, Kami? keep those new players for three years, until they get tired and start talking about wanting to go to Barca and United.
we need to keep our players and add to them. this business of selling, replacing is getting us nowhere. we're in danger of turning into the world's most profitable football academy. fuck this model.

Ofcourse it's about money. He's hardly gonna give an interview and say that he wants to leave over 20-30k a week, is he? The lack of trophies is just a nice excuse for him.

We should have decided what we were doing with Cesc at the start of the summer, instead of letting everything drag. If cesc is staying, then stick to your guns with Nasri's contract and if leaves so be it. If cesc is going, give Nasri the deal he wants and build your attack around him.

Wenger wouldn't buy 2 players for 30M never mind 50M.

Whats the point trying to repair an obvious condemned wreck every year anyway?

I'd like to keep Nasri, but if he wants to go and City were to offer, say, £25-30M, I wouldn't be against selling him if we could guarantee getting Mata for around the same amount.

Is that a reflection on your opinions of the players abilities and what they can bring to the team or of Nasri's desire to go?

As of now, I don't think Nasri has done anything wrong, I'm happy for him to stay if he finds an agreement over a new contract, and I think he's a fantastic footballer who will only get better, but if he wants to go then I think Mata is every bit as good and at Arsenal, surrounded by quality players, I think he'd be even better. And I rate the creative side of Mata's game quite a bit higher than I rate Nasri's.

i think mata and nasri are comparable in terms of potential/quality, but in a pass&move set up mata would be better. nasri is a better dribler/keep possession type of footballer, but mata is better at quick, smart passing moves.
