No, I think it would be disasterous to lose Cesc, Nasri or both. Nasri can take the step up to being world class if he builds on what he showed in the first half of the season. However, that doesn't mean I think that he would show that quality if he went to City. It's all hypothetical, but just because I don't think Nasri would be personally successfull at City in terms of his development as a player, doesn't mean I think it's ok for us to sell him.

I'd want £30 million from City. From abroad I'd want £20m. Anything less and I'd keep him, even if he's not signing a contract.

Agreed that it would be a disaster to lose both.
Less so to lose just Nasri but a massive blow all the same.

As to whether or not he'd flourish at City, I hope we never find out 🙂

I think he'd step up wherever he goes, he's talented, he's a tough character and he's very ambitious.
All excellent reasons to keep him here.

Loads of players out there who can replace or better nasri. Wenger has bought better players of his type many times before.

Useless policy spending 3 years getting a player to finally perform and then sell him. Sure Nasri can be replaced, even though I strongly doubt he will be adequately replaced, but the most damaging in selling Nasri is what it says about us as a club.

IMO it is vital we try our damned hardest to keep both him and Cesc this summer.

Why? They're clearly not fully committed to the cause. Best off replacing them, learn your lesson and don't let it happen again. But granted, that's where this club falls down time and again.

They need somebody who can give the final pass and that isn't Nasri. He wouldn't improve them at all.

Somebody else made this point to me today and I do see that there is something in it.

The problem for me is: circumstances have dictated that we will end up selling them for less than they are worth.
If we won't spend extra money we're going to take a step backwards with whoever we get in to replace them.

We might strike it really lucky and find a cut price Nasri equivalent but I cannot see us getting anyone of the calibre of Cesc for the kind of money we'll be brandishing about.

Basically if Cesc and Nasri both go we lose the 2 players who actually excel in Wengers shitty passy system. So its back to the drawing board without them and frankly we need a new man with the pencil in his hand.

letting our best and one of our best players leave will not help in any way.

do you honestly think wenger would do what is necessary to bring in adequate replacements? i am not talking about fucking gervinho or oxlade-chamberlain here, but players like pastore, kagawa, mata etc. proper quality.

Chelsea have already bid £45m for Pastore, that gives some indication of the amount we'd have to invest in that calibre of player.
Not that Wenger would spend anything like that on any one player.

and not that wenger would get anything close to that for selling such a player. 7m for clichy to the richest team in the world? theyre so dumb, they paid like 15m for de jong when he had like a 5m release clause. they paid 17m or whatever for kolarov, and i forget how much for bridge.

They paid £16 million for Touré and close to £30M for Adebayor if rumours are to be believed.

about market price for them, probably a bit stiff for toure. but lets not kid ourselves, they are swimming in money and don't mind overpaying. their entire roster is testament to that.
