And now Placido Domingo is joining Henry Kissinger on the "Council of Wisdom" of FIFA. Couldn't make this shit up.

😆 "Council of Wisdom"

They've devolved into an absolute farce since the turn of the century, it's only when they pushed their limits that people are actually sitting up and taking notice.

A breakaway is what we need.

And yes, other organisations can be just as corrupt, but they are also beholden to national laws. FIFA is actually operating with absolute impunity, as if they're an autocratic government with a president-for-life of planet Earth. Sometimes you'd think they can shoot someone and get away with it because they can't get sued anywhere.

its like a really bad episode od days of our lives. we'll find out soon that blatters evil twin has been running fifa for the last 3 years.

And another reason for breakaways:

Quite often, you can't run a football tournament without it being sanctioned by your FA, which in turn must be sanctioned by FIFA.
So not only does FIFA make a farce of everything at the highest level, they also affect what happens at the grassroots level as well.

It won't be over till the fat lady sings.
They got the fat bloke to delay that from happening.

I completely agree, even the threat of a breakaway by a number of important countries might be enough to run these fat pigs out of town and reform the organisation.

I mean wtf has Switzerland Trinidad & Tobago and Qatar ever contributed to world football anyway who are these fools and how did they achieve their positions?

Only the present day FIFA could take the World Cup and turn it into something football fans around the globe have to endure for 6 weeks every 4 years. They've virtually sucked every last drop of magic out of the whole concept.

I've never thought that was FIFA's fault completely, Tim. The WC couldn't compete with year round leagues once the latter got televised round the globe, that's what stole the magic. What FIFA are removing though is any semblance of dignity for the whole event.

Since the advent of the Champions league the World cup ceased to be the pinnacle of football.

Though it'd piss me off if FIFA was superseded by an organisation that fucked up Australia's qualifying route to a new global tournament. That has taken long enough.

In these days of globalism and easy travelling, qualifying zones according to continental associations are an anachronism, I'd like to see more open draws for qualification for international competition.

It'd be feasible to make the last qualifying stages a global/seeded system. That'd really revitalise the competition.

Some degree of regional grouping would have to be retained to allow traditional rivalries to flourish and retain the global character of the tournament.

What will really happen though is that things will be skewed to favour the qualification of countries with a larger TV audience/total TV revenue.

Well who wants to see minnows thrashed, that doesn't help anyone least of all the minnows, so seeding is preferable.

Well, I agree ... that was the main reason to appreciate Australia moving from Oceania to Asia. 26-0 over the Solomons is no fun for anyone.

a month later

If it's an off field role I can see the logic in the appointment.
