He can't do anything. He's not on the board and he doesn't have any majority. He says stuff the fans want to hear because he's got something to gain; no more, no less. Public opinion about him can't really be any lower so he might as well take the opportunity to endear himself to some of the supporters that are fed up with the current management.

Regardless, I do agree that Wenger needs a little kick up the backside, but not about the spending, but about the generous doses of myopia. Denilson and Aluminum needed to be out at least a season ago, and if he can't see that then he won't be able to see the need to spend either.

Edelman isn't impling anything of the sort in that small part of quoted text; it's sensationalism of the worst kind.

Does Wenger need someone to negotiate deals? Someone to help him make top level decisions on player acquisitions? Yes, that's what we have an executive team in place for.

This is what the salaries of a squad composed of the most expensive players in their respective positions would look like. That starting 11 would earn €94.5M a year (around 82m pounds).
Every single one of these players makes far more than our highest paid player. Which begs the question: what exactly is our 110 million pound wage bill paying for?

I know it's for everyone. I just think we need to redistribute. We need to have about 4 guys who are worthy of 30m pounds combined. Then we can distribute the rest of the money as we see fit. There'd be enough to go around.

But you fail to consider that our wage bill is considerably smaller than the wage bills of any of the clubs that those players belong to, thus making the comparison completely irrelevant. It tells us nothing that our entire wage bill as it looks today would be able to support that starting eleven. The reality is that we pay both top players and squadders less than the likes of City, United, Chelsea, Real and Barcelona.

I am pretty sure we could increase top earners with a thinner squad. I have no problem having more trainees like Bartley on tap if it means trimming away the likes of Eboue, Denilson and Rosicky. We could save a lot of money by getting rid of no-talent ass-clowns and bringing in some stars. It leaves you vulnerable when you are injured, but you have a few more top level players at the top of the rotation. We'll have more stars, our trainees will have access to better players to learn from. We can do it.
As for salary structure, I work in a company where you can make 20x what the lowest person of your function makes. And it's a small office. I don't see why Arsenal can't move towards such hierarchy. Works fine in my workplace.

If it were that easy clubs like Aston Villa or Spurs would pick up a Premier League title every now and then. Even Liverpool. They never do though, because it's not. Individual examples of poor players does not contradict the fact that you need a squad of a certain size to compete, and the better you pay them the better the players are. "Leaving yourself vulnerable when injured" sounds like a particularly bad idea for Arsenal, by the way. When are we not injured? And where does it usually leave us? To the point where people are crying out for us to sign someone like Benzema as squad depth just because van Persie can't be relied upon to stay fit, that's where.

I don't think someone like Benzema is squad depth. To me, that's a starter. We need THAT level of quality in our best 11 next to Fabregas, Nasri, and van Persie. Bring in two more guys of that quality (CM, CD). Trust me, you could get rid of six players like Diaby, Denilson, Squillaci, Bendtner, Rosicky, Chamakh, etc), and promote the kids, and be better off at season's end. We have a lot of mid-tier guys doing nothing but push up season ticket prices
