There's no way we could get £30m for Diaby, Denilson and Bendtner collectively. £20m maybe. Just sayin'.

It doesn't really matter if he's intended as squad depth or not. The point is that such signings increase the wage bill. They don't decrease it. Saying "all we have to do is to sell these players here and then promote some youngsters over there and use some glue for the remaining cracks" is just one big rationalization after the fact.
The squad is what it needs to be. You generally improve it by paying more to bring in players of higher quality, not by swapping them for youngsters. Inexperience is already costing us too much. You would be desperate for a Chamakh or a Diaby if all you had were a Benik Afobe and a Conor Henderson.
It's not just some nebulous "total experience" we need to think about. Each individual has to be put under scrutiny because there are several from whom, given their experience, a lot more could be expected.
These are the guys we have the option of jettisoning in favour of decent, enthusiastic squad options like Lansbury (and the returning Ramsey). Whether or not we then have the cash to bring in another player who can turn a game is undetermined, but it can't hurt much to get rid of dead wood. Not going to list names but I don't mean Diaby or Chamakh either, there are plenty of players I'd want to drop before those two.
