When he's on, he's on. Has played 97 Tests at an average of 42.45. Strike rate almost feels surprisingly low at around 59, but that's high for Tests.
Compares favourably with Mark Waugh who played 128 Tests at an average of 41.8 and SR 52—I think you'd have to confess he was a superb batsman at Test level with those stats.
