Not being snobby but I don't like watching Gayle bat and I don't think he's very good. Hasn't had anywhere near enough memorable innings in difficult Test conditions. Absolutely no grace or courage with his batting. Like Sehwag, he has a good eye and relies on it against shit bowlers - fair enough, but not my cup of tea. There are other players I don't like watching like Chanderpaul (very ugly style of batting), but I at least respect him because he's a grinder and he can play the situation. He will drop his bat and take a few bumps and bruises in order to survive at the crease. And it's no coincidence he has a much, much better batting record.
And I know there's some trouble with the Windies Cricket Board but he really shouldn't have turned his back on his country during the prime time of his career. He was going to be filthy rich through IPL in any case. Even in days when pay was much lower in cricket, there's nothing that would've stopped Sir Viv and co. from putting their country first.
