I don't know what I think about this really. Yesterday, I just thought Bairstow had been pretty brainless, however it's pretty clear that he thought the ball was dead and was just going for a chat. Sharp thinking from Alex Carey, pretty brutal captaincy from Pat Cummings in not withdrawing the appeal, but I keep coming back to Bairstow should have made sure the ball was dead. This is Ashes cricket after all.
I think the hysteria over it is pretty funny, what's interesting to me is that it always seems us wanking on about the "spirit of cricket". Actually, what we should be thinking about it how we won the toss at Edgbaston and threw away a really good position and how we won the toss here in London, put the Aussies in and conceded 416 runs, before collapsing from 180-1 -325 all out and losing a test match which Nathan Lyon was unable to contribute anything to with the ball because of his injury. The Aussies have a better team, sure, but the way we batted on Friday was ridiculous.
