It was a great day of cricket to witness but still gutted. I've been to tests on every England tour here since 2002 and still yet to see England win a test live. Really thought yesterday was the day. Seen us win ODI and T20s in the flesh but still never a test live. Memories of Hamilton in 2008 with the match looking like petering out for a draw until Ryan Sidebottom took a hattrick out of nowhere late on day 4 to set up a run chase of 300 for day 5. Decided to drive down with my brother (were living in Auckland then) thinking we'd go for it and instead we tried to block the day out and got rolled for 110. At least we lost trying to win yesterday.

Also just having a look through some highlights and this is me putting my hand on my head when Stokes hit straight up in the air and got out.

Sorry Invisi, I feel for you. The 1981 Test at Headingly is still burned into my brain, when Botham and Bob Willis brought England back from the dead.

But I also really like the NZ cricket team, and just wish they'd won the World Cup.

Not watched much Roland Garros this year, but had Carlitos & Djokovic on this afternoon and they are tearing lumps out of each other. 1-1 set all after 2 1/4 hours and it's been ridiculous tennis.

Bryant couldn't muster the interest to watch today. You have to admire the guy, but it's bad enough having a Terminator in football, it's a bit much to have one in tennis too.

I’m a massive Nadal fan but unfortunately Djokovic is the GOAT.

He can easily win the calendar grand slam this year which hasn’t been done since the 1960’s.

Djokovic is so insufferably boring. He's such a massive prick he can't even be a decent villain.

He’s not that bad. It’s just that tennis became tribalism like football as everyone was either team Nadal or team Fed.

If you actually listen to Djokovic interviews he always comes across as respectful and often charismatic.

He can be a prick on the court at times but that is also why he is one of the biggest winners in the history of sports in general.

Trust me im the single biggest Nadal fan you will ever meet and have been watching tennis longer than I’ve been watching football and Djokovic is the GOAT. Mentally he’s the best sport star I’ve seen since MJ.

Missed the start of it last night, but the BBC are doing what looks like an excellent documentary called the Gods of Tennis. They were featuring Borg & McEnroe - now there was a proper villain (but only in the sense that he was the antithesis of the British stiff upper lip attitude so prevalent at Wimbledon).

I'm enjoying the start to the Ashes. Root and Khawaja are captivating to watch. Interested to see how Lyon does later in the test match as the pitch dries further, and the rough. Its not as exciting to watch any of the other spinners playing this match.

Good start from Root today. This first session is going to be crucial. Didn't agree with the declaration on day 1. I get the reason and know it's the new mentality of the team to try and advance the game quicker but with Root still in I felt trying to get another 40-50 runs would have been more valuable. But still we've got a chance to set a decent target here and bowl 4th.

invisibleman18 yeah I thought that declaration was hasty and Root may have been able to thrive at a S/R of 150-200 for a half hour more.

invisibleman18 Some indication that tomorrow may be rained out. If so, difficult to see what total is worth striving for.

HomeSteak Yes. Just watched the Netflix show so I'm looking forward to the Tour in a couple of weeks. I do follow cycling but none quite as close as the Tour.

We were looking down and out until Broad got those two key wickets. Nothing better than a test going to day 5 with all results still possible. Still think Australia have the batting left to do it. But 5th day run chases are never easy so we're still in it. Need to find a way to get Khawaja out. How many runs against us is that now since he came back into the team in the last Ashes? From a player with whose previous Ashes history was getting dropped in two different tours.

Might need to channel the spirit of the 2005 test at the same ground! "Jones. Bowden. Kasprowicz the man to go."

invisibleman18 been a crazy see saw of a match, hasn't it? I thought we were done for last night before Broad's intervention. If England get overcast conditions to bowl in this afternoon, there's the potential to take 2 or 3 wickets quickly, which you feel they'll have to do to avoid defeat. If Australia bat through the day, surely they'll score enough runs to win the match.
