Very much a bowl first pitch but an England captain just couldn't do it at the Gabba after Hussain. Looks like it will go down in history alongside Hussain as a catastrophic decision so far.

It's really our shithead Prime Minister Scott Morrison using Border Force via a visa technicality to tap into Victorian self-absorption about the world's craziest COVID-19 lockdowns and the public fury about the "medical exemption" that antivaxxer Djokovic's team previously organised for him.

Nothing gets a chauvinist Australian audience going quicker than a glorious spectacle of exclusion. There was a pretty big blow-up round Chris Brown being refused a visa based on his history of domestic violence a few years back.

The added beauty of it is that Vučić is now turning the visa cancellation into even more of an issue to please his own base in Serbia.

"Rules are rules" was Morrison's line, but Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews can pretty much personally rule on Djokovic's visa at any point, I think. Might even end up happening if enough people of Serbian background in Australia go off about it …
