Michael Johnson addressed the issue better than any other commentator i've heard.
He is right, for me, as that 100 metre final is the only athletics i watched since the Olympics.

Very excited for the NFL to boot up again this week. The NFC looks to be a two-horse race again between Green Bay and Seattle, with the winner favoured to win the Superbowl, but the AFC should be a ton of fun this year. Steelers, Patriots, Colts and Broncos are all elite teams, Dolphins look strong enough to challenge plus you can never count out the Ravens.

Steelers @ New England this Thursday is a great game with two fine QB's, but with no Le'Veon Bell for Pittsburgh NE should take it.

That crowd though 😆 , most partisan crowd i've ever seen watching tennis. They literally cheered after djokovic missed his serve, got broken, made errors, and became quiet when he won.

Old man Peyton still got some left in the tank. Passed 70k career yards last night. As long as he stays healthy he'll pass Favre as the all time leader this season. Remarkable turnaround after the neck surgery that kept him out the entire 2012 season.

Anyone else following the rugby world cup? Japan beating South Africa today is probably the biggest upset I can think of in sport, not just rugby. Incredible.

Not sure SAFFAS would agree but, other than the All Blacks or Wallabies losing to a minnow, it's the best thing that could have happened as the publicity generated is exactly what the tournament needed. The, relative, apathy here in London is embarrassing for the sport.

I am Invis, used to watch a bit of Union but there has been a few changes in the technical rules which I don't completely understand.

True. Since there are only a few countries who play it seriously (bit like cricket), when it comes to the World Cup the group stage mostly consists of the big teams thrashing the minnows by big margins. Upsets are much more rare than in football so the tournament needs something like this to light up the early part. Japan had lost 18 World Cup games in a row going back to 1991. Not on the same scale, but Georgia beating Tonga was also an upset.

You really wouldn't know there's a major international sporting even going on here, and this is coming from someone who lives about 5 mins from Olyimpic Stadium.

It's a religion in NZ but people here can't understand it's not a big deal anywhere else. You going to any games otf? I went to 3 last time when it was here. Wasn't really planning too but decided it would be silly to miss out so ended up going to a couple of Wellington group games then made a late decision to go up to Auckland for England's quarter final a couple of nights before the game when there were still affordable tickets left.

Massive, Tonga and Samoa are no longer village teams, and tbf we could all name 6 of the next football WC quarter finalists too.

True but you still get something like Spain going out in the first round or France losing to Senegal etc in most World Cups which are much more rare in rugby.

I think it's the times (saturated sports at the tip of your fingers) as recent WCs and even the Olympics were subdued affairs compared to a few years back.
Nowadays you don't see many car and house flags as was the case in the days of yore.
