Qwiss It's a bit typical Spurs isn't it. They have no good idea about how to play so there's nothing to inform their buying, they're just trying to get in on the big business in the market. Last year they needed a 10 badly and ended up with a bang average winger instead who ended up rupturing his ACL for good measure.

Also, it must be humiliating for Manchester United that all these midfielders have been moving in a window where United need a completely new midfield, and they have been interested in all of them but none wanted to go there.

Klaus tbf Tonali was throwing himself at United for a while after we weren't interested. He's worked his way down to Spurs cos no one else would meet his demands and Newcastles price. United have done sensible business and are right not to break the bank for these guys, throwing money at the wrong players is exactly why they are where they are. Not sure Spurs midfield is going to be any better than Uniteds who've signed Tielemans who's in the same bracket as Tonali just slightly older and Andrey Santos is a decent young player.

Burnwinter I think once PSR stopped them turning quickly into the next Man City they started to lose interest in a long term project. Villa starting to look similar but not quite has severe.

Qwiss the Saudi government get bored quickly with all their vanity projects. LIV golf is in difficulty, so is that absurd line project in the middle of the desert and now Newcastle. The war hasn’t helped things but they checked out of these projects as soon as they realised it wasn’t easy.

Gurgen Could have said the same about Ligue 1 about 12-13 years ago though! I didn't believe PSG would manage to attract guys like Zlatan and Neymar, but they did after building up to it with the likes of Cavani and Luiz. I think the same would happen in Eredivisie eventually (not that I advocate for more oil money).

Klaus fair enough but France is still a sizeable market. The Netherlands is 18m people who are too cheap to even pay for a TV subscription.

Qwiss The agent fees seems to have thrown most people off when it comes to Tonali. When you're in United's situation you have to expect to be taken advantage of if you want to sign quality players though. Tielemans was a good pickup but they need three starters this summer. The advantage Tonali and Fernandes (nevermind Anderson) had was that they're already established in Premier League.

Mirth yep, again same issue with LIV, they thought they could quickly buy golf and when it didn't happen they gave up. They're throwing shit at the wall with different sports and seeing what sticks. They have their World Cup, that was easy to buy, they've bought F1 because its always for sale, same with combat sports and wrestling. The more for sale you are the more Saudi is happy, a bit of pushback and they give up.

Klaus United have Bruno who is nailed on as their 10. So they needed 2 starters, Tielemans is one. Then they have Mainoo and Santos for depth or rotation. Agree they probably need another player though. Think they wanted Fernandes a lot more than Tonali. They're sort of the opposite to us right now, they need to invest their big money in young players. Getting Tielemans on the cheap is a good way to bridge that gap.

anyone who wants to play in a stacked squad that is built for the champions league and you can be rested for half the league games and protect your body while still getting paid like a top premier leaguer. a weak league is not a handicap if you buy the players, it's a bonus.

ummm.....this is the way it would have happened....the agents have got us a fee but probably that's where it publicized from, we don't seem to generally be the ones that make it public

anyways i don't care much about the excitement but more about the impact

bruno was since beginning of 2024 for me the ideal player to come in, might be 1-2 years late but he's not downhill

utd fans comparing it to casemiro are a strange lot, he was 2 years older and 4 years ago, fees have doubled since then, in fact 30% up since last summer, can you imagine spurs paying 100m for a midfielder in 2022, heck when did the next year it was still a bit unbelievable, most deluded lot
