Have you ever wondered why Blackburn are such a shit defensive outfit?
I'll give you a clue - it's not all Ryan Nelsen's fault. Samba isnt anything like the sort of quality we should be looking at. If Wenger rates him, it says more about Wenger than about Samba, as far as I'm concerned.
It's not as simple as saying "Blackburn are shit defensively, therefore Samba's a shit defender". It doesn't work like that, the logic is flawed.
Like I have said previously in this thread, from all the times I've seen Samba play I wouldn't rate him as a player I'd want at Arsenal. I think he's clumsy, lacks concentration, slow on the turn, and, well, a bit thick at times, but I also have come away thinking how bloody amazing he is in the air, how strong he is in the duel, and how he has a great knack of being in the right place at the right time inside his team's box - amazing blocks, last ditch tackles, and saving headers.
Wenger rating him enough to put him alongside Vermaelen is encouraging to me, and tells me I might not have watched enough of him, or closely enough to really know how good he is, and his strengths and weaknesses.
