If it was official it would have verified on it which it doesn't. He'd also have more than 200 followers, and he'd also not have Jason Roberts who is real telling everyone it's fake.

The reasons i don't want to sign samba are contained in the rest of your post - he's one of the reasons that Blackburn are crap at the back, not the other way around.

Wenger's judgement is highly questionable on defenders these days, and i have seen enough of samba in the last few years to be confident that if we do sign him, it will just be another case of a clueless coach getting it wrong again.

Samba is different from most players Wenger's signed though, particularly defenders. If the biggest worry that we have is Samba isn't agile or technically very good it's like that Wenger shares the same concern and probably seen enough to reassure him. That's one aspect of the game Wenger cares about. Besides, we managed well enough with Grandad Sol when he played last season and he could barely play a game every 10 days.

Having said that I've never seen Samba and thought 'there's a player we could do with'.

Samba, if being a target at all, is obviously not intended to be a starting centreback.

Personally I'd be glad to have him as squad depth. He's a far better player than Squillaci.

Being happy with signing Samba probably means being happy to see Koscielny and Djourou compete to start alongside Vermaelen next season.

Given the injury history of both Djourou and Vermaelen it could also mean having to be content with Koscielny and Samba starting a lot of games together.

I'm not so sure about that but, I agree Klaus, he is better than Squillaci.

I'm very content with those arrangements. The big problem this season wasn't Djourou or Koscielny, it was that we were missing Vermaelen for the entire campaign.

True enough, but I'm concerned that we might see a repeat of that next season.

Due to the seriousness of his injury, you mean? It's possible I guess, but it sounds an awful lot like loose speculation to me. I'd leave it to the medical staff to evaluate the risk. Even if they did a terrible job last time around at least they based it on observations and tangible data, as opposed to gut feeling. 🙂

Besides, if Vermaelen were to break down again it probably would have happened already. It's not the kind of injury where you're playing half-fit.

Yes, due to the seriousness of the injury and yes it's just loose speculation based on fear.

I suppose it's down to trust, or lack of trust, in those who assess the risk.

I'm more worried about Djourou actually. His knees and shoulders always look like they're one bad tackle away from breaking. I think that better squad depth would ease the pain when it does happen. Samba is someone who's familiar with Premier League too which is perhaps what we've missed most of all. We don't need a world-class defender to beat crap like Stoke and Birmingham. We just need someone who can be depended on to come in and do a good job.

Samba is practically the reason why Blackburn havent relegated. His performance that secured safety for blackburn was one of the best defensive performances of the season.

Defending takes more than individuals, its about how the back four work together and how the manager sets up the defensive strategy. Doesnt help when you have a novice manager and poor team mates.

Yes, but don't underestimate the individuals' contributions. You see that with Mancs with Smalling and/or Evans at the back.

The thing is, Samba is a decent squad player but we need a defender who is better than Vermaelen.
