Didn’t read through or follow the game thread here, so sorry if a few takeaways have already been discussed!

First and foremost, if you don’t enjoy watching us play these days, the cure is honestly to watch in a pub/bar (not full of fans) with a friend. Stepping back from paying full attention helped me not get myopic and annoyed by all of our challenges.

My other big takeaway is that it’s clear Saka isn’t fit to start, and that Trossard and Jesus are done. Between the three of them, the probably lost 8 of the 10 first duels they were in. Some really poor stuff from them, Trossard in particular.

Sure, but in the first half I thought Hincapie did more than a half of Martinelli's job and Gabi was generally bad today. The other two were not much better. Throwing all three at the same time was a bit odd, I'd prefer one of them to be subbed with Eze, but he changed right players. The individual cameos were rather bad, but it looks like almost entire team is out of form, having said that I still think that changing the frontline was a good idea.

If the ref said no pen in real time, I would be ok if that stood but way VAR reviewed and re-officiated the whole situation was bullshit. And it’s not just the penalty that’s the problem, it’s the consistency because there have been times when that exact situation had been given as a penalty.

It obviously doesn’t count and was “boring” and “not real” football or whatever because we didn’t concede 5 goals. Would have taken 1-1 away before hand so still all to play for. Next week will no doubt be tense and stressful and this one was probably always going all the way to penalties. Can’t complain with being level after the away leg.

This is the problem, right here. How you can look at the video and deem that the ref made a clear and obvious answer is beyond me. In EVERY angle, you could see Eze nick the ball first, and then get hit foot (or even toe) stepped on. Every single angle. How that could be judged to be a clear and obvious error is a complete mystery.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised it wasn't given in-game despite it being a clear penalty.

But as the dust settles and we're all reminded of the principle a clear and obvious error is needed to reverse on-pitch decisions ... and of a number of times that very principle has been used to fuck Arsenal ... I am very supportive of Arteta explicitly calling it out in his post match press conference.

The dust will settle even further if we're deprived of a Champions League final on these margins.

I had weird melancholy watching this game. seeing guys like saka, odegaard and white look different shades of washed up makes me worry not just for the remainder of this season, but for the coming seasons

Saka's dip in particular is worrying. The decline has happened over a longer period than people care to admit. He hasn't been good for almost 2 years now.

Ode and White are replaceable with players already in the squad so I am less concerned about them. Just need to move on quickly so we aren't bogged down by their falling standards.

Really depends if his body can recover. Smart money says no if he's at the World Cup.

Burnwinter and this is something that should form part of your next season planning. Don't take the position we too often have of no recruitment because hopefully he'll just be at the same level as when we was performing elite. You have to work on the basis he might not be so where does our attacking threat come from.

Saka and Ødegaard are still great players, but they aren't able to get any sort consistency due to injuries. I think they have both been very unlucky this season.

It's a shame we relinquished our lead and had the penalty overturned. I thought we gave a good account of ourselves but not convinced we will at home. This has penalties written all over it.

Not sure why you think that. They won't have the advantage of being at home and making it a hostile environment for the refs, and we are generally much better at home. And with luck, we will have a couple players back in the team (i.e. Timber) and that will go a long way to shutting them down more. And if Saka plays (even at 80%), that would also be a boon for us. Lets just hope we get the win over the weekend first.
