Why? Because the money in the PL has sucked up all the good players, so that mid-table PL teams are now better than teams 2-4 in any other European league.

Tam That’s not because opponents are better, it’s because we’re shaky, nervy, and all too often give up space and possession once we go a goal or two up.

I think this is a case of both things are true. It's squeaky bum time and we have gotten nervier. But it's the difficulty of the league that explains why that has happened.

RowJimmy I don't think the league had changed in 1 season any change would be over time and would include the last 3 seasons at least it's not a switch oh now the premier League had become hard.

We scored over 90 goals in 23/24 and will likely finish with fewer than 75 this season. The idea the league has suddenly gotten much stronger in the last 2 seasons is not realistic. We have a midfield allergic to assists and goals, our full-backs Timber and Hincapie are average in the final third and we have a pretty mediocre forward lineup whichever combo is used.

I'm not optimistic about winning the league. It's not so much the quality of the XI but the utter panic they show when under pressure.

Dom when assessing our title chances you have to look at everything not just how we are playing at the moment. CL run in’s, scheduling of games, FA Cup draws, difficulty of fixtures left, injuries, carabo cup final result.

We still have a LOT in our favour.

It's happened over the prior two seasons and this one, change in TV contract I think, shows in lower point totals for league winner and success rate in CL.

But it's also the model of Brighton Bournemouth & Brentford with the heavy use of data analytics being generalized across the league. With the exception of Tottenham everyone now understands how you need to set up against greater talent.

Think we need Califiori back in the starting XI ASAP. Our attacking game with him is already not swashbuckling but much better than with Hincapie in the team.

Big Willie Hincapie has been one of our better players last 4 games. Can’t drop him. Cala can play in FA Cup/CL and show his worth again.

daredevil yeah but that's my point if its become more difficult for a team as bad as United had been to gain improvement it must be possibly to achieve outcomes like that we just haven't executed. Football always changes maybe the next change will be aware from the kind of control defence first attack that we've had because it's just not effective against these types of teams you have to evolve to something new

I also still think city and Liverpool are certainly worse teams even ignoring the opposition they just aren't at the same level.

We looked good in the first half, that late equaliser really fucked us up. At 2-1 you can see the nerves were coming in, I think recent results were in the back of their mind but got through it. Still think we did enough to win the game

Should add Chelsea made this a scrappy dirty game, the ref was shit as well. How many of our counters pulled back. Still despite that 2nd half our attacking play was poor, far too nervous and nearly cost us at the end. Mentally we are feeling it but need to show resolve and power through.

Sicario2 yeah apart from the own goal he was great yesterday. His attacking play is improving week to week. He's starting to really look like a great signing.

Calafiori has actually been exceptional defensively this season. I like Hincapie, but I'm not sure this premise is even accurate.

If Eze had even a semblance of a first touch today, we would’ve been two or three up in the first half before they scored. We had at least 2-3 great attacks spoiled by heavy touches by Eze when we had them so open and frustrated. I love him but he has to be able to be more consistent if we are going to avoid having every game turning into a heart attack from here on out.

samthegooner the positive there is that it was that lack of precision that was the issue today. I prefer that to just not getting on the ball at all. We know he has a good technical level generally so you wouldn't expect that to continue if he can keep getting into games.
