RowJimmy that can be true and at the same time it can be that we are nowhere near our potential. Did you watch that game today and say we were a great team just frustrated by a difficult Chelsea team? Do great teams look like we did in the last 10 minutes? Do great teams perform the way we did against Forest? Wolves?
I don’t expect that we would finish the league having won every game, but we go into every game as title favourites and better than every opponent. We should win almost every game we play; the problem is not in the not winning every game, it’s in the manner we don’t win. This generally isn’t like days of old where we’re peppering goals with shots or falling over chances we can’t convert left right and centre. It’s going two up against Wolves about being able to see it out. It’s going one up against Brentford and not being able to see it out. It’s conceding a last might goals to Kairat Nobody, getting level against United then letting them run through the middle of us. Most of our poorer performances and/or results are primarily due to failings of our own and not because the opposition is much better than in previous years. At the start of the season teams couldn’t buy a shot against us. We were impenetrable. We now no longer are. That’s not because opponents are better, it’s because we’re shaky, nervy, and all too often give up space and possession once we go a goal or two up. And it’s not by design, as if it was we still wouldn’t be seeing chances conceded the way we do.
