I think Rogers is coming here to replace Ødegaard honestly – he is a better fit as we move to a double-pivot midfield behind a #10/SS. It seems like Arteta sees Rogers as a talisman in a similar way to Rice, physical specimen with a varied skillset, and I think he'll want to play him in the middle of the pitch, akin to Bellingham or Musiala.

Barcola isn't a perfect player but he offers speed and technical ability, he'd be a nice upgrade on Martinelli.

I'd like to see Rogers, Barcola, Scott, and a fullback in. We'd probably need to get good fees on Martinelli and Ødegaard to make that happen.

What team is going to come in with a good offer for Odegaard at this point? It would need to be 80m plus and there’s just such a small group of clubs that can afford that. It doesn’t seem like any of those clubs are looking for a player like Odegaard. I’ve always been a supporter of either moving him deeper or selling him for a more output oriented 10 but I just don’t see it happening personally.

It doesn't have to be £80m. And in any case we're just not gonna stand pat with Ødegaard and Eze. We need more penetration and end product from the middle of the pitch, that's probably our biggest need in the starting XI. Rogers makes a lot of sense in that light, and I can see him combining well with both Havertz and Gyökeres in different ways.

We also need far, far more technical ability in the front line. Havertz's awful touch when he missed that chance in the CL final is a prime example of what I mean.

Don't think Mikel is going this hard for Rogers unless he's playing in the middle of the pitch. He's not a prototype Arteta winger, I really think Arteta is thinking Bellingham/Musiala with him. The LW upgrade is another discussion.

I think Rogers would also guard against Havertz being unavailable.

I suspect he’d play in Odegaard’s position the majority of the time however he’d likely get match time out wide.

Our priorities are off if we look at this team and think Rogers is #1 #2 & #3 priorities. Odegaard and Eze are higher floors and ceilings than Trossard and Martinelli.

Artetas obsession with EPL proven players is something else

Personally I think Odegaard will move on. Lewis Skelly and Rice (dropping deeper) will rotate with Zubimendi.

With Rogers coming in Odegaard’s departure would not only bring in funds to reinvest, it’ll suit Dowman and it’ll allow Rice to become captain

Far rather give those minutes to MSL or Zubi.

Think I could maybe convince myself that Rogers would be a good option off the left and a utility elsewhere, but to have him come in and replace Odegaard would be annoying.. especially with a trio of him, Rice and Zubi... add Gyokeres upfront and you might as will give them a battering ram to hold to bulldoze through a defence as they sure as shit ain't going to pass their way through...

Most Villa fans I've heard from are adamant Rogers plays his best when he starts on the left. I don't think he's going to start in the middle for us. I see him as a long-term replacement for our very eligible Belgian bachelor.

Gurgen don’t think they do. It’s just that Odegaard’s passing is naff.

People also underestimate finishing and the ability to beat players with powerful dribbling

Rogers for LW. I mean it could work but why not get a true LW like Barcola? Taking me back to Wenger days when he signed 70 mid sized attacking midfielders and played them wherever.
