Qwiss It does look that way. Happy for them to take this time working on getting in some young guns.

On the other hand if we are to believe Mokbel then 2 of our 3 targets (Kroupi + Fernandes) aren't at the world cup, so there is the possibility of movement during the tournament. But those targets may also depend on what happens with our players that are at the World Cup.

Big Willie Champ definitely see what you’re saying and I might be wrong but I’m just rephrasing what Magic Hat has said on Twitter in the past and he knows much more about the financial side than I do. I just don’t think it makes much sense to sell the next summer unless for a big profit.

From an accounting perspective they've only booked 1/7th of the buying fee as a cost so far. So when they sell the remaingin 6/7ths is accelerated onto their books as a cost. So the book value of the sale is £[sale] minus £[unamortized fee].

Claudius but isn’t that essentially just breaking even? I would think you couldn’t then add that to your transfer budget for the summer without going into more debt but I guess these teams really don’t care outside of PSR or whatever they’re calling it these days.

The point is they're not generating headroom in the accounting that they can reinvest in the team. Chelsea's problem - at least in the short term - isn't a cash problem but an accounting one. They're running out of non-football assets they can "sell" to themselves to generate "profit."

Coming around on Rogers more – he feels a bit redundant with Eze and Madueke, and we need to sign some more technical players, but he's a top player in the Arteta mold, think he'd be great for us.

Claudius they don’t have the time for them to blow up though, their settlement agreement with UEFA has tied them to a strict set of criteria to meet in the immediate future, or risk of facing a harsh set of penalties for failing to do so.

The triple blow of missing out on European prize money, match day income, and seemingly struggling with sponsorship deals as a result is giving them a real headache in trying to meet those terms. That’s why they might end up having to make a few sales that might not otherwise make financial or footballing sense, purely in order to stave off further punishment. They might not want to sell Joao Pedro for footballing reasons, they might not get any really significant financial benefit/profit from any potential sale, but he might be one of their few realistic transfer options that can help balance the books.

PL mid-season video on Kroupi basically he has elite technique and finishing and pretty good link-up too but has been playing as a SS because he is not a physical 9.

Looks like an Alvarez alternative to me. If we were to sign him expect he would play off Gyok/Havertz and also cup games at 9 could possibly also cover LW?

With the way we play looks like he would struggle at the 9.

Panda jesus wasn't a physical 9 and we looked good with him in the middle, until he fell off a cliff. kroupi has the right profile to play as a false 9, or open up the possibility of playing behind gyok/kai when we're chasing a goal. his numbers when deployed as a lone forward for bournmouth are pretty poor, so we need to use him correctly

Panda yeah he'd definitely struggles as a 9 in our set up right away but he's young and could be moulded to a role.

One thing I will say is I don't want any more "can do a job at LW" players, we need someone who is a specialist there.

If we play him at 9 and keep hoofing, he will definitely struggle. If we try to play football he won't.

IMO we've looked best over the last 3 years with either Jesus or Havertz playing as a false nine. It was using Gyokeres as a true nine that caused us all sorts of adjustment issues.
A big part of the initial enthusiasm about Gyokeres came from people who disliked how we play and were hoping that a true nine would mean a different play style (more vertical etc.). I'd prefer to see us recruit players who fit with how we actually play rather than ones that require us to rearrange the whole team.
