lorddulaarsenal we seem to scout personalities strongly along with talent. I'm just not sure a huge and demanding personality like Mbappe seems to be would fit in at Arsenal. Feels more like a Manchester signing if he came to the Prem.

Mind you Phillippe Auclair speaks very highly of him so who knows if the demanding personality thing is real or not.

Feels like both Liverpool and us are shopping for a big name wide forward in the summer. If the choice is between Diomande and Barcola at somewhat similar cost (as it feels like it might become), who would folks prefer? I don't really have a view as I have never watched Diomande seriously.

Been saying all along that people need to stop pretending like we're gonna get a player like Kvara. We may be in a really strong position now, but we aren't gonna get anywhere close to Kvara. Even if we won the CL, he aint going anywhere.

Oddly enough, Dules' dream of Leao might be worth a punt this summer. Milan failed to qualify for the CL, and they have a financial hole to cover because of that. Might be worth a punt on the cheap if we can put in a cheeky low-ball offer for him. I was going to suggest perhaps we look at Pulisic (that's the American in me talking). But while he is a good player, he's pretty much a perma-crock, so no thanks.

Mentioning players who have run afoul of their managers like Mbappe or Leao is probably a waste of time given how Arteta has emphasized total commitment to the team with all of his recent signings. I agree that Kvara is a pipe dream. I think he keeps getting mentioned due to his near perfect fit with our team with his talent, drive and workrate. Ideally we can find someone similar but I’m not sure that player is out there.

We are now on the biggest stage in the world and players are watching. A big performance on Saturday could really catapult us into a tier that the club has never been in during the modern transfer era. With Berta’s shrewdness in the market, I’m hoping he has a surprise or two for us this summer. Two top class attacking signings would make Arsenal the best team in the world IMO.

To be fair it seems like Mbappe was in the group of players who got in line with Alonso's training regime while Vini and some others didn't and ultimately got him fired. If anything, players who supported Alonso would probably be into what Arteta's telling them as well.

PSG is a good yardstick for how to do business when you're on top. They did the exact opposite compared to Liverpool: they got rid of a goalkeeper who let a wet fart past him every week, handpicked a backup defender from Bournemouth, grabbed a new keeper, and that's pretty much it. They kept everyone together and now they're having the same season again.

Mirth True, but I think that's precisely why the most important thing for us is to get people in who are actually available rather than pushing for the next level. It's hard to find any higher level than the one we're currently at. We won the title this year despite having the worst injury record but if we want to do it again we can't have Havertz play 8 games in 18 months, and we can't have Ödegaard and Ben White missing two thirds of a season. Those are the big problem areas, not £100 million signings on top of what we've got.

Klaus I agree that we should only carry injury prone players that are elite talents and not squad players.

But I disagree that it's hard to find a higher level for our attack. We have successfully found a way around a problem - which is our low scoring front three - but it's still a problem that will resurface next season. We shouldn't be spending £100m on a single player but we should be ready to spend money this summer across the squad. For the first time in a long while, we're the clear best club to join in England.

Klaus — Arteta needs to also better manage his squad. We saw some unnecessary lineups in the FA, EFL and late Champs games.

There were serious issues with how Arteta rotated Timber and White, and I think MLS and Norgaard both could have played another 2-3 games (each) in midfield.

Mirth I think we've gotten a modest tally from the attack partly because our best player and our best playmaker have both been injured for large parts of the season, partly because Arteta's system is what it is. I don't think you're gonna be able to put in many individual pieces that elevate it, and in that sense it reminds me of Enrique's system at PSG. Biggest question mark was probably the left wing but the way Trossard has been playing for chunks of this season he'd be on top of a lot of wish lists if he weren't already here.

Klaus I think there is definitely another level we can get to when it comes to the attack. Part of that will hopefully come organically with better health/fitness for Saka, Odegaard and Havertz. All three are players that yesterday’s celebrations show are integral to the culture Arteta has built in the club but also are very unique players. We need them to be more available so adding an attacker or two that are close to their level and also will fit in with the team culture is something I believe we need. We saw how many times we had to roll out the Martinelli-Gyokeres-Madueke lineup this season and how ineffective they looked for large swaths. I’m bullish on Gyokeres’s growth over the season as an admitted hater in the early part. I think we can improve on the two others but Madueke is going to be tough to move. Adding an upgrade to Martinelli’s skill set as a pacy width holder with goals in them looks to be an opportunity this summer. And then adding a Swiss Army knife attacker like Jesus who can play across the frontline and add goals in the XI or off the bench is something that will ideally increase the margins this season. This summer needs to be about reinforcing at the fringes to increase our margin of error this upcoming season. Turning some of these one goal wins into 3 goal wins would do wonders to squad rotation possibilities (and our own nerves).
