Don Pacifico Yep @JazzG said it best above - Liverpool had a lot more holes than we do coming off their league title and they ignored those holes and went for the flashy, shiny signings. Even if we did the same, we are a much more complete team due to the depth building we did last summer. They also had aging stars in Salah and VVD that they were between a rock and a hard place on - they couldn't let them walk or the fanbase would mutiny but they also were playing with fire if they offered them big contracts since the cliff can come quickly. Clearly it did with Salah. I think the biggest lesson we can learn from what Liverpool did last summer is what they did with Luis Diaz. For me, that's relevant with Trossard. I've been on the fence on if we move on from him this summer or not but I think the way he bookended the season with runs of his best form show that he's a very useful squad player and we should be keeping him.
It's a World Cup summer so there won't be as much movement as we would see in a normal summer window. I'd like to see us move Jesus and Martinelli on and bring in two new attackers - a LW and an attacker that can play across the frontline like Kroupi, Alvarez or Yildiz. Then we should see if there is a place for Nwaneri - I still think he could be the perfect depth for our most attacking CM spot but if he can't crack the rotation then either another loan or a permanent deal might be in the cards. Same with White- I'd hate to see him go but if now is the time, let's move him on and bring in another top RB. The last position we should invest in this summer is a capable Rice backup who can also partner him and compete for a starting role - Fernandes, Anderson, Tonali, Garner, Bouaddi are the ones that come to mind.
Give me Barcola, Kroupi, Fernandes and then we can see if White moves on. Add those players to this title winning squad and I could see us getting 10 points more next year.
