Oh just so I am clear - I do not think it is realistic for us to sign Kvara but would obviously jump at the opportunity even if it meant it was almost our entire summer budget.
I think it's clear we are going to be signing a midfielder. Personally, my preferences for this signing are: 1) Elliot Anderson 2) Mateus Fernandes 3) James Garner 4) Sandro Tonali 5) Adam Wharton. I don't think Anderson is that realistic as both Manchester clubs look to be fighting it out for him and he will likely go for close to 100m. Fernandes is my pick personally due to age, price, and ability. I think he checks a ton of boxes in terms of being adequate cover for Rice, being a good partner for Rice and also being versatile enough to play all of the midfield positions (with 6 and 8 being his main fits). I feel like Tonali is a tad overrated and also inconsistent. He's also 5 years older than Fernandes and 3 years older than Anderson and Wharton. Personally, I rate Garner higher than Tonali but he just has a less famous name.
In terms of winger, I'd be alright with Barcola. I think he has the highest ceiling of the players that are "available" this summer. You could certainly see him taking his game up a level as a nailed on starter for a big team. I have some concerns over his finishing but I think I'm being a little tough on him there. My main concerns with him are how he will play against a majority of low-blocks in the EPL since a lot of his best moments are running in behind or in transition. But he would be a big upgrade on Martinelli in my opinion so if we were to swap the two, I think that would be a good move.
Then I think we need one more versatile attacker to replace Jesus (but not just Jesus's minutes - they would play a lot more than Jesus does now and allow us to rotate more next year). Alvarez is the dream but we are definitely going to be in a battle for him with Barca and PSG and may not win that battle. I'd love to see if we can tempt Juve with Yildiz even if he just signed a new contract. He just looks like he's on the cusp of exploding and I think he'd be perfect for our setup across all 3 attacking spots and even as a 10.
It looks like we are going to move for Livramento. I am concerned about going in for another injury-plagued fullback when we know what Arteta does to fullbacks who come in healthy. But his ceiling is very tempting.
