"What do we need?" is a normal question. But it has two possible kinds of answers depending on the situation: "We really need such and such," as in, we need to find some shelter to get out of the rain, or "Well, we could use such and such," as in, it would be great if you could bring dessert, but we have everything else. Our "need" for a superstar attacker is in the latter category.
That said, I would cancel the Martinelli sale if Alvarez is not coming. (I don't think there's another option out there for us, although there clearly are for teams that actually need, in the first sense, better players than they have.)
