Arteta absolutely never said he didn't want difference makers. That's beyond silly. He's always said he wanted them. He just also wants them to be disciplined.
RowJimmy my point is that those types of plates aren't really disciplined that's just the nature of their game. The reason they make significant impacts is because the teams accommodate their limitations in the defensive discipline and allow them to impact up front. I don't think Auba was really any different in that respect. If Arteta is looking for a player in that style most of the top players would be out and Vini would likely be out as well.

Cannon We've been linked to several defenders in Portugal, including Zeno Debast, Inicio and Araujo. Don't know if there's anything to any of these links, but it sounds like we'll bring a warm body in at least.
Another one of his underrated qualities is he has been reliable at delivering for Real Madrid when they need him. Some of those goals are out of nothing, something we need.
I'd still say it is 60/40 in favour of him staying at Real Madrid but Florentino Perez is quite stuck in his way and isn't afraid to let big players go. We are pushing hard because there is definitely something in this.
JazzG I don't think it's really us pushing, it's all about do Madrid and vinicius really want to stick to their positions and go nuclear ultimately. That's what decides it, we are waiting in the wings sure but we aren't really active.
awooga83 Oh I think we have pushed hard at this, talk of the Kroenke's being involved so that means at every single level of this club we are trying to pull this off. By push I don't mean us pushing to Vini to reject Real Madrid, I mean in terms of placing ourselves as the team he will go to if he can't come to an agreement with Real Madrid. I'm sure we probably have outline terms on the table with him which his management will have approved.

At the scale of signing Vinicius, you aren’t working through contract negotiation in weeks – it’s going to take months. We’re clearly finding a way to meet his financial demands through legal contracts around image rights, but even with that in place, the financial requirements are massive and something that will take a long time for this (any!) club to come to terms with.
Make no mistake, Vinnie is twice the player Alexis Sanchez ever was.
Looking at players who have moved in the last 15-20 years for a fee (not Messi or Mbappe in other words) this transfer, should we pull it off, would only be comparable to Neymar.

RowJimmy yeah I just mean we know what the offer is. If he's leaving Madrid it's not going to be a football project or how much we want to elevate him in the team to sell. It's will you pay me what those guys wouldn't. We know his demands based on reporting so presumably we've set out something to match that. There's not really much else to do.

Think you guys are struggling to comprehend how big Vini Jr is. He’s a double Champions league winner that came close to winning the Balon d’or as the main man at Madrid with multiple seasons of hitting 30+ goals and assists. Sanchez was good but never close to that level.
