Burnwinter we definitely had bigger plans for Havertz when we signed him. Plans that didn't work out because he's no Declan Rice in midfield, and Rice isn't what we thought he was in midfield either.
Agreed, the club wanted Havertz as an 8. Luckily his performances there were so bad at the start that it didn't take us long to move him forward. But the first half of that season cost us the title in the end woth too many dropped points compared to just the 5 dropped points in the second half.
For what it's worth, Rice is exactly playing the role we (fans) expected him to play. An 8, rather than a 6. Who knows for sure if the club expected Rice to be a 6. I just don't think they did tbh as we had Partey and Jorginho back then and chose to hang on to both.
