The biggest indicator of us winning the title is how will we react to a blip or one game going against us as we know the media will make it out as if we are bottling it.

This title race is us v us as much as it’s us v City/Liverpool.

If we can fight those ‘demons’ aka our baggage we will be fine.

What we can’t do is turn one loss into a crisis and spiral out of control.

I dont know, i think i would prefer a draw. That way, they both drop 2 points. Especially if we win at Sunderland. That would put them 8 and 9 points behind us (respectively).

We should be able to win at Sunderland. They have beaten Wolves, Brentford, West Ham at the SOL.. They also drew v Villa and we will see what they do at home v Everton. Their one big result was at Chelsea..

They are a decent team for a promoted side, and they will obviously stay up, and Xhaka has been great for them. But lets not make them out to be better than they really are. They have only really played 2 big teams. Yes, they beat Chelsea, but they lost to Man Utd. 3 of their 5 wins came against the current bottom 3 teams. (WHU, Forest, Wolves)

USArsenal agreed and they lost to Burnley as well. Also, we are a bit lucky they are playing tonight so they only get one days rest v us rather than potentially 3. If they win tonight they go second which is funny.

I agree here. I don't think writing off Liverpool and bigging up City makes a lot of sense given there is only a point between them. A win would be a big boost for either team so I'd take a draw, preferably one where Haaland and van Dijk end up in a fist fight and both get a 6 match ban for it.

I dont think this matters in the least. We play tomorrow in the CL, so we actually have less rest than they do. "Rest" is a non-factor

We're in a position where we can actually afford to fuck up, which is nice. But if you want to win the title you go and get three points in a game like Sunderland away.

Sicario2 Not how logic works though is it? If you've got just one reason it's a must win, then you don't need two. The truth is we could lose by 10 goals and still be a minimum three points clear with the outcome in our hands.

Let's save all the "must win" malarkey for those cases it is a must win, and long may we avoid them. Some are keen to dramatise, but our squad has moved into a good space where winning without desperation is the standard.

When you have momentum you must do what ever you can to keep it. Having said that, Prague tomorrow is the most important game.

If you don't win a "must win" match, then that's the season over. Oh, but you say you lost but somehow it's actually not over? Well then you didn't have to win it. So this upcoming match against Sunderland is not a "must win". And while you're here, he's 28 until he's 29. 😘

I must say, it seems a bit mad to talk about a game in week 11 being as "must win", but, if we do beat Sunderland the pressure on both City and Liverpool to win at the weekend will be huge. Conversely, were we to do anything but take the maximum, a win for one of them puts them right back in it just before the international break and then those fixtures against Spurs and Chelsea. Imagine the noise!

So, no, not a "must win" in the strictest sense, but as close to it as makes no difference. We need to keep blocking out the sun for everyone.

RocktheCasbah Agreed, also both those teams are having serious teething issues. We need to make sure that we take full advantage of this because later in the season they might get it right and by that point you want to be ideally out of reach but if not have a comfortable margin which puts the pressure on them.

Sure I'd favour City dropping points all else being equal, but either way it'll be a luxury to spectate the two clubs duking it out, knowing we're safe at the top of the table for at least one week longer no matter our results.

"Must win" at this point in the season is nonsense.
The idea that we "must win" to take advantage of rivals dropping points when if they won we "must win" in order not to fall behind drives me nuts.

The games are all worth 3 points.

I think calling this a "must win" just means every games a must win and then the term loses all meaning.

I know he's just attempting some mind games but deep down you know this is actually playing on his mind and stressing him out. Win the next 3 or 4 and and Liverpool and City will really be feeling they have no chance.

I understand why folks are nervous about City and Liverpool still in this race but from what I have seen this season, I just don't really feel the same. City has relied on Haaland to bail them out all season and while I don't think it's necessarily an unsustainable strategy, their defense looks terrible. I personally thought that this weekend's result was due more to Iraola being naive and playing a suicidal high line against Haaland than City looking anywhere near to their form from the last several years. Similarly, I thought Emery set Villa up terribly to deal with that Liverpool team. We've seen time and time again that they are vulnerable to long balls and fast transitions, yet Emery set them up to do the exact opposite and played right into Liverpool's hands.

Our attacking injuries are piling up, which does concern me, but both the form of both of our rivals does not.
