I do not think he is a bad manager, but at the same time I do not believe he is the manager who is capable of winning the league/CL, mainly because of his negative approach in important games, but also because our football is a bit robotic and our creativity is at relatively low level at least in comparison to other top teams.

swider Aye, there's a million nuances between being a good manager and being a league-winning manager. Arteta's own Sith lord, David Moyes (or Darth Insidious as I like to call him) found this out when he replaced Ferguson.

You usually adjust by either getting a managerial upgrade, which isn't easy on this level unless the obvious candidate presents himself, or by bringing in assistants with different ideas. We brought in Heinze who seems like he's just more of the same unfortunately, but maybe he's not.

Either way people can change, and it's on Arteta to do so just as much as the players. This was bullshit.

Haaland is the big dog striker. He wasn't available and there isn't anyone else like him around. Gyökeres is the next best thing.

Maybe we should concentrate on giving our striker someone like the Reindeer guy to drive the ball forward from midfield and pass it to him? Let's put it that way, would it have been Merino instead of Reindeer, he would have turned back and played it out wide to the fullback/Doku and there would have been no goal.

People were saying arteta was stupid tactic wise. But I made the point of you swapped the strikers we'd have won that. Is that really a manageral issue?

est there were moments he was able to connect play but probably more that showed up his limitations in controlling the ball under pressure. It's not his game really so can't blame him but it's a problem for us as a team given the way we're playing right now (and have done for the last two years) demands that skillset from the CF.

Speedster And I disagree. Haaland can't score if you can't get the ball to him. We couldn't get the ball to Gyökeres enough(long balls from the goalkeeper don't count) because our midfield was too defensive. Wouldn't have mattered if it was Haaland instead of him.

est The midfield didn't help, but Gyökeres's hold-up play and pace in behind were pedestrian at best, and that makes things more difficult. In the modern game it's hard to accommodate a striker who waits for the right service and doesn't otherwise impact the game much. People debate whether someone as good as Haaland is worth it for City, or a bit of a flat truck bully.

I still think Gyökeres will still prove a useful player for us, but he is not the savior, especially against teams with elite physicality. Havertz is stronger, faster, and better technically, and better suited to starting these kinds of games.

Haaland got a great break and scored. That's what the best in the world do. Other than that he barely had an influence himself. Gyokeres may be limited but he has his strengths and we aren't playing to them.

Add to that Haaland was only in a good position to score from that break due to a pretty uncharacteristic error from Gabriel.

I think had Havertz been healthy, he would have started this game in place of Gyokeres. I agree he would be more suited against teams like City.

I think that it's games like this - and Liverpool - where we really miss Havertz. He's not the greatest finisher. But we wins ball after ball, and in these sorts of battles that really matters.

Yep he's got a mental block. I remember him being on a yellow and getting through 1v1 and diving. He should have been sent off but the ref let him away with it. We've made him tons better mentally but he still struggles 1v1 so much. Ie never seen that in a striker before. Any time he's a chance to go 1v1 or throw himself to the floor he usually throws himself to the floor.

It's weird to have 2 strikers that have such unbalanced all round games.

est Havertz is a decent player but his absence has somehow made him into one of the best strikers on earth. All of a sudden his hold up play is Giroud-esque and his link play is on par with Bergkamp.

I really look forward to having Havertz and Gyokeres in the same squad so the latters not run into the ground every week but as you say people seem to be forgetting why we wanted a new striker in the first place. We'd win more headers 40 yards from goal if we had Havertz in the team but thats about it.

Like everyone, varies from game to game and from period to period of game. We created nothing in 1st half but plenty in 2nd.

will we probably draw too many games again this season?
1st draw of the season against 3rd best team in league, doesn't say anything about how we'll do in games against teams 4-10.

will be fail to evolve to get the most out of gyokeres?
Probably - but this may well mean that Gyokeres is the wrong kind of striker for our team.

is artetas obsession with safety going to end up costing us results?
No more than it will gain us.
