CPM Gyökeres was an absolute nonentity today. The complaints about the midfield are justified, but his performance, or lack thereof, was more glaring to me. He falls over whenever the ball comes near him. He can't outrun defenders at this level. There were several balls across the box and he was nowhere to be found. It really sucks to not have Havertz in this early stretch of the season when we have all of these big games.
This is just not true. He took down a few nice long balls and started our attacks. Just like Haaland did for his goal, the difference was that their defenders immediately dropped back and midfielders swarmed the ball, unlike ours who were all caught way up the pitch.
He found space and was unmarked and ready to tap it in for the Trossard low cross, but one of City's defenders managed to get the slightest deflections on it to take it behind Gyökeres. He also made a nice run and got in front of the defender, but Timber took too long and had his cross blocked.
He wasn't amazing but he wasn't shit either.
