we got 89 points with kai havertz as striker. having him as a backup can't possibly be a sign that we're not trying to win big things. he'll be back after the 2nd international break so it's not like it's a season ending injury.
and the rest of the squad for the most part is ace if we still have the main guy. we aren't ace if saka gets a bad tackle and we have to rely on madueke as our rw. same for rice. and even with our vaunted defensive options, if we lose saliba starting mosquera or moving timber to rcb doesn't make us ok. these players are great options to allow us to strategically rest the best, but certain guys are number one for a reason. show me a squad with no clear delineation between starter and reserve (in particular down the spine) and i'll show you a team not winning anything.
