Not disagreeing with you but I think as it stands we are good to go and injuries shouldn’t be an excuse this season. Getting another striker will increase our chances but without one we can still win.

i don't get what you're saying. the only way we need another striker to win stuff is if viktor isn't the guy or he gets a long term injury. but if he's fit he should be the one playing in the big games and this hypothetical other striker would be sitting sulking on the bench not helping us win that big game.

there are no excuses not to win stuff.

Sicario2 Yeh, I said quite complete. I've voiced my concerns over a striker elsewhere, but the way I see it we have Gyökeres and no one else right now, and that's regardless of whether Havertz and Merino are fit or not (Jesus I'm not even counting), because they're midfielders. If either of them end up making 20 starts up front we'll win nothing in my opinion.

We're gonna need to find another proper goalscorer who moves as an actual striker in and around the box, but I appreciate that Berta can't correct all of Edu's negligence in a single window. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed this season.

The thing is, who are we going to get as a 'proper goalscorer' that is going to be happy playing second fiddle (or 3rd fiddle) behind Gyokeres and Havertz? (And whether or not you see Kai as a midfielder, he's really not. He's more of a hybrid, but playing as a striker is where we need him to be more than in the midfield). Merino is not a striker, agreed. he was only employed there in an emergency last season.

Jesus, yeah, i don't count him either. Anything we get from him this season is just a bonus, but i'm expecting nothing from him.

USArsenal Yeah, players don't tend to stay long for exactly that reason, but I reckon you need both the competition and the backup in a healthy squad. It's probably a position that ends up a bit like a revolving door. Any striker we sign should back themselves to become first choice. If they fail then no hard feelings, just move them on after 2 seasons or so and find someone else.

Meatwad Seems like you get what I'm saying just fine. I think we're a bad tackle on Gyökeres away from not having a striker, and without a striker we're gonna win zilch. The rest of the squad is ace, both in terms of starting eleven and depth.

Meatwad I do. But neither I nor he can control whether some ogre comes flying with studs up on his leg. Why is it that we can have adequate depth on every single position except striker? How many centrebacks, fullbacks and wingers do we have visa centreforwards?

Klaus if you look at our CB/fullback cover they can all play multiple positions similar to Havertz.

we got 89 points with kai havertz as striker. having him as a backup can't possibly be a sign that we're not trying to win big things. he'll be back after the 2nd international break so it's not like it's a season ending injury.

and the rest of the squad for the most part is ace if we still have the main guy. we aren't ace if saka gets a bad tackle and we have to rely on madueke as our rw. same for rice. and even with our vaunted defensive options, if we lose saliba starting mosquera or moving timber to rcb doesn't make us ok. these players are great options to allow us to strategically rest the best, but certain guys are number one for a reason. show me a squad with no clear delineation between starter and reserve (in particular down the spine) and i'll show you a team not winning anything.

Mirth Agreed, we really need to get rid of him in January.

Ideally he's fit enough to play some Carabao games to show he's back, and then we send him back to Brazil on a loan with an option to buy or something.

Meatwad agree. If he can stay fit Kai is a great back up option. He gives us tactical variation and is a solid scorer if not a top one.

I'd be very surprised if Havertz isn't a better backup option than Gyokeres is a starting option.
