Klaus it's really weird. The VAR guy just told the ref to look at the monitor. The latter makes the decision.

Ref sticks with initial call after VAR tells him to go to monitor maybe once a year, no more. In practical terms the VAR makes the decision.

Coombs of course we know it's not how it works in practice, but it's weird from them to change him out when the on-field ref is the one who officially makes the decisions. It's like they're not even trying to hide it.

System is designed to preserve on-field ref's authority rather than to produce correct result. EIther a challenge system (so that ref really is making his own decision) or a simple VAR overrule (final decision made centrally) would work better IMO.

because the on field ref is a great man who would have otherwise refereed a good game until he was bullied by that evil VAR official. he's just a victim i tell you, accountability for other people. that VAR official needs to take personal responsibility for what his abuse of power resulted in. hopefully VAR officials will get the message to mind their own business.

Yeah it's not a we are going there to win line up it's a we are going there not to lose line-up. Which is why none of us are keen. That midfield is not the one for me.

At times, it would be easier to just go out there and try to win the game outright, especially when you've got great attackers like we do. But that's not Arteta's modus operandi.
